TA 26-08: MFA Integration for SAFE DA Accounts
- Issue date: July 20, 2026
- Attention: Secure Automated File Exchange (SAFE) Delegated Administrators (DAs)
- Action requested: SAFE DAs must enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for their SAFE account upon receiving the activation email.
- Effective date: July 20, 2026
Overview
The Secure Automated File Exchange (SAFE) service is implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Delegated Administrator (DA) accounts. This enhancement will strengthen account security and align SAFE with cybersecurity best practices and State Administrative Manual (SAM) requirements. This change will:
- Improve protection of SAFE DA accounts
- Reduce the risk of unauthorized access
- Support compliance with statewide security policies and best practices
What’s next
SAFE DAs will receive an email notification at least 24 hours before MFA is enabled in production. The email will include instructions for activating MFA on their account.
Action requested
Upon receipt of the MFA activation email, SAFE DAs are requested to:
- Review the instructions provided in the MFA activation email
- Complete MFA enrollment for their SAFE account
- Ensure setup is completed by July 29, 2026
Failure to complete MFA enrollment may affect access to DA functions within SAFE after the go-live date.
Once MFA is activated, SAFE DAs will be required to use the additional authentication method when accessing their SAFE administrative account.
